10 American Women's Firsts with books! 17th & 18th century


Welcome to a list containing historical American women first to do [insert accomplishment].



In celebration of Women's History Month I'm using Wikipedia  about historical American women & listing alongside the information a book about the women. Some women I did not find any book about them. If you know of any let me know!


1) 1635, Anne Hutchinson the first American woman to start a Protestant Sect
2) 1640, Anne Bradstreet first published poet in the colonies.

3) 1647, Margaret Brent first American woman to demand the right to vote.
4) 1649 Mary Hammon & Goodwife Norman first American women convicted of lesbian activity. I couldn't find a book about them. If you know of one please let me know, thanks!

5) 1700Henrietta Johnston first female working artist in the colonies.

6) 1750, Jane Colden first woman in America to win distinction as a botanist. 
7 ) 1756, Lydia Taft - first woman in the colonies to legally vote. Couldn't find a book about her. If you know of one let me know!

8) 1762, Ann Franklin first female newspaper editor in America. Couldn't find a book about her. If you know of one let me know!

9) 1776, Margaret Corbin first woman to assume the role of soldier in the American Revolution & received pension for it. Couldn't find a book about her. If you know of one let me know!

10) Hannah Adams, Hanna first American woman to become a professional writer and Hannah Wilkinson Slater first woman granted a patent.
