My Review: I watched the movie first as a kid and fell in love it. In my teens I decided to read the book. It feels and reads completely different than the movie for me. Thankfully, the copy that I had was all segments of this book .. its original six volumes of the same story published separately.
The Mystique Reader published Goodreads Monday about Alice Walker's The Color Purple blog post. I absolutely love The Color Purple — the movie. The Green Mile is the reason why I am afraid to read the book. I watched the movie The Color Purple as a kid and loved it. I'm worried that the book won't win me over the way the movie did.
The Green Mile is one of my favorite movies but I didn't enjoy my adventure while reading it. I believe if I wouldn't have watched the movie first as a child then read it in my teens... I would have different opinions.
It's one of my fears that the enjoyment of a movie will take away from the experience of reading the book. I know it sounds bizarre and a lame worry.. but The Green Mile caused it.
If you've read my other blog post about Stephen King's Carrie -- it has a low rating as well. I tend to like the movies around Stephen King's books because I've watched the movie first.
I couldn't get his books as a kid because my library access was only through my elementary school. They don't house his books (for obvious reasons). But I was able to watch TV easily enough.
