A funny birthday book with peep holes and folding pages. For toddlers ages 24 months and up, focusing on the child’s daily life.

Review:

Back of the eARC says, "Sweet book with peepholes and folding pages, about animal houses and a birthday surprised." This is a toddler-focus book that I clicked and downloaded because of the cover. Board books with movable parts for younger kids are good items to have to help kids gain interest in books. It's cute and works for the age range it's meant to be for. I think it'd work for younger school age as well.

Review: Back of the eARC says this is a book with half pages that hide and reveal how Sammy & Hob enjoy the season. This is a toddler book so this isn't the usual age range of books I read in elementary. But I downloaded it because the cover was cute.

I liked the format/story of the book and following the two adorable characters through their interaction with autumn .. works for this.

Overall: The books are geared toward toddler but could work in a kindergarten classroom or student in my opinion.

As he reaches down to break off a piece of stinky cheese, the eyes of a large frog appear and a frightened Pip runs all the way back home. He decides the moon is far to scary for a mouse, and he'd much rather live with his mom instead.

My Thoughts:

A cute story that can help activate "what if"s and getting kids comfortable with asking questions (Like they need a lot of help ANYWAY). Imagination and science.

Opinion:

This is Kara and her life with her friends. Focused on friendship and family from start to end. It's fun, emotional and interesting to keep turning the page. Loved my time with this story.

Everything throughout the story -- the friendship, her family, the villains -- feel realistic enough. You are dealing with her new world as she tries to get her footing. This will be posted on my kidlit blog, too, but I wanted to write about it here.

This comic would be fantastic for kids from 3rd grade and up. But the story line can hold an adults interest. I love when a story can do that.

Also: The teenagers that are the focus of this feel like today's youth. They're not repurposed teenagers from the sixties. Often characters in kid literature feel like the writer doesn't understand or never met a kid before.

If you're looking for something modern to read for your kids or to read together this definitely works.

Books to help celebrate National Soup It Forward Day March 3rd

Soup Sisters founded National Soup it Forward Day to encourage everyone to make a difference in each other’s lives through the warm, healing kindness of sharing a bowl of soup.

From Wikipedia; Stone Soup is an old folk story in which hungry strangers convince the people of a town to each share a small amount of their food in order to make a meal that everyone enjoys. In varying traditions, the stone has been replaced with other common inedible objects, and therefore the fable is also known as axe soup, button soup, nail soup, and wood soup.

This version is a hen making a soup to safe herself!!!

 A 1977 picture book written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. Simple read for the youngers. The mouse is the made aspect of the soup unless he figures out a way to save himself.

From pure survivor mode to not become someone's dinner to this weirdo.  A Halloween version of Stone soup.

 A recipe book for kids to use their imagination and have fun.

Grandpa's depressed. Grandma's died and he isn't handling it very well. He decides to create a soup that his wife used to make. In doing so he finds friends.

This talks about death repeatedly may not be something you feel comfy with. But it exists for anyone interested or dealing with the topic of death.

Mom had a baby and the kids with their father are making a special soup for when they come home. A bonding story and working through new changes.

Is adorable.

Children's novel about two boys. One boy is the title character who goes by "Soup". He doesn't like his actual name so they call him Soup.

There's 13 of these books. There is even a younger age version of these called Little Soup.
