 Look What Brown Can Do written by T. Marie Harris is a book that is focused on career and job goals for Black students. It is essentially a 'You dream it you can be it' positive children's book.

It covers adults who are in a wide variety of careers. Each section has the persons name and a photograph. Every paragraph starts with "Brown can..." and discusses the field that person is in.

The illustrations are colorful and all in all the book has readable fonts for kids to read on their own. It can be used a discussion with your children or your students in class. A way to introduce students to a wide variety of careers that they may not have thought about before.

This one is adorable. She reminds me of Rudolph. She struggles to keep up with her brothers while they're running around. They make fun of her.

Instead of giving up she trains and beats all of them. They're not laughing anymore...they're proud of her at the end.

This follows human boy, Finn and his pet, a Panda Bear named Chad. Chad was a birthday gift for Finn. If you can get passed the whole sentient friend-pet thing -- it's cute. 

Moral of the story you should share.  It's a bit wordy for a preschool read but the pictures are adorable and it gives the adults something to do.

The art work is fun to look at and the font is easy to read.

This lovely optimistic book is free through Kindle Unlimited and $7.02 to buy it out right. This one like the above are great for the littles who can sit and listen to a story or too sleepy to move. 

I absolutely love the many sugary names the grandmother calls her grandchild through out. The artwork is extremely engaging and lovely to look at.

We start off with Aardvark's but are Aarkvaards and they never know which way to go. 

The pictures that go along with the animals are just bizarre enough.

If you're comfortable with reading about veggies & their undies to your tot -- this is definitely the one you want to pick up.

This is a bit wordy I find this one better to look and examine the artwork than to read.

The pictures are engaging enough for preschoolers. 

They are looking for a friend. Along the way they become friends while looking for a friend. 

The funniest line in this, "I'm terrible looking, but my heart is very kind." WHAT.

Illustrations are adorable and fun to look at. 

The duck is absolutely silly and you learn the quirky ways she lives her life.

From bathing in apple juice to trying to send a piglet off to France.

Her friends try to take her shine away. They realize that things on the farm aren't as fun, interesting or meaningful without Silly Tilly.

Artwork is fun. The story part is kind of iffy-wise. 

A nice read to read with your toddler in preparation with potty training.  

At this age the bathroom and what is going on in THERE is a big part of their life. 

So, of course, a few books about it!

Spring into Action by Pat Brigandi

First sentence: Friday is Clean Up Day in town.

Summary: They're going to clean a part of a street to grow a garden. Max isn't happy because he doesn't like bugs.

Accessed through Netgalley for an honest review. 

Good:

Things that I enjoyed about this book:

• Dinosaurs 
• Vibrant artwork
• Easy to follow text
• Repetition with text
• Cleaning up litter
• Creating a classroom garden

One student named Max is not happy about his teachers plans about the garden. He is afraid of bugs so he arrives in a bug suit. One student giggles at seeing him in this bug suit. He explains that he's afraid of bugs so he's wearing it to protect himself.

What I love is that they reply with, "Don't worry, Max. We'll take care of you."

They do their best to protect him from the bugs. He struggles with working on cleaning up the yard because of the bugs. The other students remind him that the bugs won't hurt him and shoo away the bugs for him.

He does end up contributing in his own way with creating a home for a rabbit. He becomes the rabbits protector and creates a space for him in the garden. Max wears his bug suit throughout the story even at the end.

Max wasn't instantly cured from his fear of bugs. His classmates accepted him for who he was. They all participated in the garden in their own way. Loved it.  

Bad: 

The only thing I can thing of as a negative is the brightness of the artwork. It could possibly be an issue with over-stimulation and too bright for a student to focus on. But I doubt that will be a big enough issue or an issue in this age group as most stories are read as a whole group.

Recommend?

Yes. It's educational in regard to littering, class gardens and fears. It can be used in a science lesson or as emotional lesson -- fears and how to treat others who are afraid of things.

Spoons is based on the Spoon theory. Chronic illness and spoons as a metaphor about reduced energy levels. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and other medical problems.

I review books through Netgalley and Hidden Gems. Occasionally, I will write reviews of books that I did not get from these websites. If you cannot tell there will be a statement about downloading the book through either website for an honest review or it will be tagged as either Netgalley or Hidden Gems.
