The Reckoning - Kelley Armstrong

Title: The Reckoning Author: Kelley Armstrong Rating:  4/5

One super annoying thing about this story though:

Chloe and Derek's relationship seems as if it's cooling down in the possessiveness of Derek. But in the next set of trilogy where they meet up with the next group of kids....he's still annoying.

I enjoyed the way this trilogy ended. It was weird but better than the way most trilogies end. This is book 3 in the Darkest Powers Trilogy

The Summoning (Darkest Powers #1) - Kelley Armstrong

Mommy forgot to warn the new baby-sitter about the basement.
Score: 5/5

Summary: Chloe can see the dead. Some people don't want her to be able to do what she wants. Chaos ensues.

Good:

The pace is set up for what is to come. There is getting to know everyone in the story. The enemies and the possible love interests.

She makes a friend but that friend disappears. Simon & Derek are fun characters and even Tori with her attitude was fun to go through.

Bad:

I am sure if I reread this I may be able to pinpoint some troubles of the book. But I can't currently because all I remember is enjoying the hell out of this story.

Recommend? Yes!

The Calling (Darkness Rising #2) & The Rising (#3)- Kelley Armstrong

Score: 3/5

This series is in the same universe/time line as Darkest Powers Series.

Summary: Maya learns that she is a skin walker. Her and her friends are running for it.

Good:

Fast-pace. There is a helicopter crash someone falls out of the helicopter. Like hello? Drama.

Bad:

It didn't feel like we actually needed this one, a filler at most.

Recommend:

If you're going to read this series then go for it. You've made it through the first book then ...may as well.

Summary: They are being hunted and things come to a conclusion

Good:

Still very fast-pace but ...

Bad:

There was something missing in this series. The first book and this book were fine. The 2nd felt meh. But there is something that was needed in these that wasn't there. It still bothers me that I cannot tell you what is missing that would have made this better to go through.

They spend a lot of time not being apart of the bad guys. The end is them working with the supposed bad guys???

The characters from The Darkest Powers show up in this as well.

Recommend:

If you're going to read this series then go for it. You've made it through the first book then ...may as well.

I should have put all three in a post but hey! Unwanted sequels are cool man!

The Gathering (Darkness Rising #1) - Kelley Armstrong

Score: 4/5

I enjoyed this series.  I read these awhile back so my mind is a bit foggy. I re-read them in 2016 but I'm still not remembering much.

Good:

Story moves along fairly well and is kept interesting.

I loved that there was anti-victim blaming message in this story and to seek help. It wasn't heavy handed and it is written in a book aimed for young adults. So, I found that refreshing and new.

Bad:

The way this book ends, it just ends. It does not feel complete. I know it is a series of books but each one should at least feel satisfying in some way.

Recommend:

Yes. It's written well enough that adults can enjoy this, too. It's definitely geared toward young adults but everyone can get something from the story.
