#SundayQuestions: Are You Reading THIS MUCH to have a review almost everyday?

Like I answered in a post Questions: How Do You Blog Every Day  I schedule posts.

I do read a lot but not enough during a week to write lengthy book reviews that I post. I wouldn't have enough time in the week to do anything else!

What a dream it would be to have the time and money to spend all week reading though.

Ah, dreams.

Now on occasion I can read and post a review on the same day. That's if I simply cannot wait to talk about something.

How much do you read in a week? What do you read? Books? Magazines? Blog posts? Billboards?

#SundayQuestions: Why do you review?

I have answered this question in some way or another.

But I started reviewing books as a way to be with the books a bit longer. It allows you more time to think about and work with a book. I recommend anyone who enjoys books and talking about them to start a book blog. Whether it is reviews or just talking about reading in general.

So far it is fun and working slowly on building memory of the books I am reading. One of the reason I started blogging about books was to retain memory of them. I started to notice not remembering books I've recently read (recently I mean within the last year) and so on.

When you're browsing your read shelf on Goodreads and have no memory of anything in a book from a year or two years ago.. Yikes.

I don't often re-read books that I have read. But maybe I should start looking into re-reading books that I know I absolutely enjoyed. Re-reads may also help with memory of the books.

Why do you review? Or simply blog about books (if you don't review)?

Garden Spells - Sarah Addison Allen

Amazon | BN | Indie Books | Library

Spoilers

What I enjoyed:

Sarah Addison Allen's books have brought me into the magic realism books and I love her for it. I didn't even know there was light and fluffy magical books that leaned more on reality than anything. The book cover to boot is adorable!

Good:

The story catches you and brings you into Claire's life. You're happy you're here everything just is...perfect.

She lives a quiet life with her catering business. She is fine with her "weird" quirks that the town doesn't necessarily like but they like what she makes. It is a good business.

Her sister comes back to town yanking her from the usual routine of her life. Everything that is happening is just a delight to read.

I love Evanelle. Those were my favorite-favorites of the story was her and her life that would pop up here and there for us.

I loved the take on Sydney's female rival and how it worked out. The woman is worried about Sydney taking her fiancee away and is upset with her return. She doesn't try to stab out Sydney from her town and her life. She is working through this jealousy and fear of losing her partner and she just figures out that she doesn't have anything to worry about.

I was rolling my eyes when that segment of the story was going through because I was not here for women and against women because of a man. But it was a nice change of events.

And, I ABSOLUTELY love that the "hero" of the story was the apple tree in the backyard.

Bad:

That there wasn't more to this story. But we got a sequel and I was extremely disappointed with the sequel. So, I shouldn't have wanted one so much.

Ghost Wars - Episode 2 - The Ghost in the Machine

Everything isn't as it seems. Things went wonky in the first episode because of this. The bridge looked like it was there but it was not. The citizens here once again fall into believing what they see when they should probably second guess what they're seeing.  Spoilers if you're worried about them are up ahead.

This episode centers more around the mayor and her family. She doesn't agree with the notion that their town is infected with angry ghosts. Her brother, Billy, comes to down and she's angry about that.

We learn that she's angry because their younger brother, Trevor died on a boat. The boat being the one Billy was running. She doesn't believe Billy's story of events.

They find that Trevor's body washed up on shore. Which for Billy is super weird as he fell off the boat over ten years ago. There should be no way that this is a possibility. But yet, they take him to the morgue and there he is.

Roman is brought in because Billy believes that he does see ghost. Roman explains that there isn't anyway that he's actually seeing his brother. It's another ghost taking on the image of his brother to haunt him. Why?

We discover that the mayor & the smuggler's father was into illegal things. For example, he won a boat off a guy. This guy commits suicide in the woods and comes back to haunt her and her brother.

The mayor finally experiences the ghost problem that everyone else has been experiencing. She shoots the police officer that was with her when they found the dead guy. But good news -- he lives.

This we learn this episode:

We see the LAMDA institute. Billy is sleeping with one of the scientists from it. He's smuggling things for the scientist. They decide they cannot pay in this round.

We learn that Billy also smuggles medication for the town doctor -- his sister's wife.

Their father was someone who participated in illegal activities.

Overall

This was not that interesting at all of an episode. I know they're introducing us to the characters who will impact the story. We learn more about the mayor's family. But the whole ghost fighting people thing felt more like dressing in this episode. There was a bit of warring going on with a ghost but.. hopefully the next episode gets back the way the first episode played out.

Or very least gets interesting.

Herophobia - Alex Lane - Review

Amazon | BN | Smashword

Herophobia by Alex Lane is an ebook that follows Quinn who has a 'superpower'. It's not Superman life of people who love you for what you do for their community. It's a life that is completely opposite rippled with fear and being monitored by the government.

Quinn is an empath it's told to us at the beginning of the story. He has an asshole friend who told some people that he was an empath. In this story, it's common for empaths to become friends with the type of character Kevin is. Which is unfortunate because no one needs someone who would spill about something that their friend would like to keep secret.

In this universe people who have abilities is heavily discriminated against and heavily monitored. So, spilling about this isn't just something someone would take lightly. He had just told them that he was a Virt -- what people who have super abilities are called here. Then, he goes and tells about it.  I understand the lack of friends at school but sheesh.

My favorite parts of this story is his romantic interest because it's not overly flowery with the romance. The people who start investigating his abilities because it's revealed at the start of the story that he is more than just an empath.

I enjoy the way this book ends as well. Usually I am against the way it ends because it doesn't end-end. But it gives the story a somewhat Twilight / The Outer Limits feel the way it makes it exit. According to the author there is a sequel on the way.

His other ability is more frightening than just being someone who can feel others emotions. It's worth the $2.99 to get the ebook though you can go over to wattpad to read it for free. It's worth the money spent. You can purchase on Amazon, BN Nook & Smashwords. The links are provided under the cover at the top.

Now with The Gifted on Fox it's a great way to get your fix on discriminated minorities with super abilities.

Tl;dr ---- I am glad that I picked this up on Amazon and read it. I recommend it. You can read it for free on Wattpad OR be awesome and go buy it!

Favorite Quotes:

Out of order.

"the good news is that you have your own mother to look past your many faults and love you unconditionally.

"Funny story. A bunch of people -- the cult -- blame the appearance of abilities on the invention of the internet."

She can create fire with a thought, and her worst problem is that she can't eat ice cream."

"Kevin began to pout. “Why do you have to defend them all the time? You should have superhero pride or something!”
