#SundayQuestions: Are You Reading THIS MUCH to have a review almost everyday?

Like I answered in a post Questions: How Do You Blog Every Day  I schedule posts.

I do read a lot but not enough during a week to write lengthy book reviews that I post. I wouldn't have enough time in the week to do anything else!

What a dream it would be to have the time and money to spend all week reading though.

Ah, dreams.

Now on occasion I can read and post a review on the same day. That's if I simply cannot wait to talk about something.

How much do you read in a week? What do you read? Books? Magazines? Blog posts? Billboards?

#SundayQuestions: What Book Has Been On Your Shelves the Longest?

ecassells

Do you mean a physical bookshelf? I only have a bookshelf to hold the elementary leveled books I've purchased from Goodwill. These books will eventually live inside a classroom at an elementary that I've been hired at. Sadly, that hasn't happened yet but I pray it will.

But my books that I read are often digital because I have no room to collect physical books for my own reading.

But my digital book library the longest book is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in my Nook library. I had a nook tablet when they were popular things to have..My mom purchased one for me after I had bought her one.

I've never finished the zombie book because I just couldn't get into it. The topic should interested me but...nope.

I got this question from this blog:  Justyourtypicalbookblog.blogspot.com.

#SundayQuestions: What Book Describes You Best?

SarahRichterArt
Hmm. I don't know how to answer this. I'm more of that side character who gets little screen time and the other characters are confused as to why I'm there. Is this a self-esteem issue? Why yes it is.

#SundayQuestions: Outdoor or Indoor Reading?

Alexas_Fotos

Prefer indoor curled up in bed or partially cuddling the boyfriend. He's usually playing video games or something not book-related as he doesn't read. I know it's hard to think of but I am with someone who doesn't like reading.

But he doesn't mind if I read parts of a book to him or talk about a book I'm reading .. so it's manageable.

I have allergies so I don't have the passion or interest to reading outdoors.

This is an updated version of this post

So, where do you prefer to read? Inside? Out?

#SundayQuestions: What book did everyone like but you hated?

A Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I don't dislike this story because it was predictable what was going to happen. I've stated before I don't mind it if I solve the 'twists' before they're revealed. As long as I'm enjoying the book and fully engaged with the story/characters .. it doesn't bother me.

I know others have raged over the make out scene in this book. But I couldn't get over that. It's the wrong place to do this in. I understand they're dying and wandering through this museum of a dead teenager. It's simply a weird thing to put in the book.

And, no, it's not because it's a man author writing about teenagers kissing and having sex. I don't understand why that was an issue with this book. But I remember kids (and probably adults) freaking out and accusing John Green of immoral behavior.

For the most part every author in the Young Adult section are adults writing about kids and their issues. There wasn't any evidence of him being a creeper..just kids being stupid and jumping to conclusions.

I didn't like this book because the topic felt like forced emotional response from the readers. Like the topic was selected because it was going to have an emotional response and..therefore attachment to this book. Which in turn allowed him to write shitty characters without having to worry too much on whether they were well-written or not. It felt empty for me.

Even though I disagreed wholeheartedly with the Anne Frank incident I still enjoyed the movie. It's still a fucking weird thing to put in a book. But the movie seemed to help the characters.

I've probably given someone who is a die-hard reader figurative aneurysms how frequently I prefer a movie over a book.

What book did you hate but everyone else loved? Lemme know :)

#SundayQuestions: Acknowledgments: Waste of ink & paper or interesting aside?

husnil24

I can see why someone may not be interested in reading this. But I'm not one of those people.

I enjoy reading acknowledgements that the authors have included. It's a nice little thing to read. I love that authors taking the time out to thank those who have helped make their book possible.

For me, it helps break the belief that writing a book is a one person show.

So, do you read the acknowledgements?

#SundayQuestions: Used or Brand New?

It doesn't matter if the book is new or used. If it's a book that I am interested in reading I will buy it.

Since most of my book purchases now are digital..they're all technically brand new.

So, do you prefer new or used books when out buying them?

#SundayQuestions: #StephenKing- Literary genius or opiate of the masses?

simonwijers

I've never read a book by Stephen King that's enchanted me. They were good enough.

He inspires and is loved by readers so I mean he's doing something that people like.

I've read blog posts and comments by people saying that his books are getting too long. I don't understand that sentiment. Unless they read him for quick reads and now it's becoming a chore for them?

I haven't read anything by him that was an exercise to read due to length.

What is your thoughts on Stephen King? Do you like his work?

#SundayQuestions: Which book do you keep telling yourself you'll read but you probably won't?

Originally, this book was Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Simply because of curiosity of it. But I've read Anthem of hers hated it and don't ever want to read anything from her again. It was torture and I feel anything longer by her would kill me.

But for me the book series that fits this is Harry Potter by JK Rowling. Not because I feel like I am too old to read it. Just I feel I missed the time where this book would have been one of my favorites.

I wasn't allowed to read it when I was younger. My family was in its blossoming church and conservative life when it came out. Of course, the belief that this book was evil and full of witchcraft held strongly in my church. My dad even went to school and had it removed from her classes whole class reading -- they had to pick something else to read.

I've recently read the first book I think last year or the year before. I feel I would have loved the hell out of this as a kid. But it's not something I will actively try to finish.

No, I don't even like the movies all that much.

Which book do you keep telling yourself you'll read but you probably won't?

#SundayQuestions: Which book should never have been turned into a film?

geralt
Is this question asking me which book should never have been made into a movie? Was this question originally after Name A Movie That is Better than the Book, but was moved. So here it is being asked further down and seems out of place.

Note: The post's question & what is in the image is purposefully changed. I just didn't feel like changing the image for this blog. If I am incorrect in what this is asking then OH WELL. Here we are. Also if this question isn't asking me what I think it is....oop.

So, a book that I believe should have never been turned into a movie. For me books that became movies and shouldn't have happened: Eragon & The Da Vinci Code. Love Tom Hanks but hated the movie.

Reason for Eragon: I only kind of liked the book and the movie was worse. It was irksome.

The Da Vinci Code: Again, love Tom Hanks, hate this movie & the book. For some reason my teacher for our Bible History class in high school (I went to a public school.) ...thought this was relevant to the class. Just torture.

#SundayQuestions: Have you ever read a book that's made you hungry? Cookbooks are excluded

x
I am taking this question as -- has a book ever want to try what the characters are eating or try a new food. Not actual rumble in the tummy pooh bear hungry kind of thing.

The books by Sarah Addison Allen has tempted me to try to make a food or eat a food involving flowers.

All due to her weird descriptive need to have food in I believe all her books. They have in some way or another tempted me to try something.

I'm allergic to flowers so I'm not sure what will happen if I eat a flower. So, that has helped stall this adventure.

Do you eat flowers? Or -- has a non-cookbook book made you hungry?

#SundayQuestions: How many physical books do you own?

x
I own a lot of books. Majority of the physical books I own are children lit. I am a certified elementary teacher so I bought a lot of books from Goodwill. It's so I will have a fully stocked classroom library when I get my own classroom.

I don't have my own classroom. I am struggling to obtain a full-time teaching position.

How many books do you own? Too many to count?

Thanks for stopping by :)

#SundayQuestions: Favorite Reading Snack?

x
This question is from this blog post. It's supposed be done with people sending you #'s through messages on Tumblr. But this isn't Tumblr and I have no problem with answering questions no one has ever asked for.

My favorite snacks to eat while reading are things I don't have to fully look at. Such as popcorn or packaged things that you can grab and pop into your mouth. Easy peasy kind of things.

Majority of my time though I don't eat while I am reading because I'm too far gone in the book.

Do you eat while you read?

#SundayQuestions: Which book character would you switch places with?

pixel2013
Dear GOD, I can't think of anyone that I would want to trade places with. Most of the characters I like go through hell or watch everyone they love die gruesome deaths. I have enough gruesome and unnecessary deaths in my life than want to jump into a characters life and experience this WORSE than real life.

I read a lot of science fiction, fantasy / paranormal things. I don't want to live in worlds where someone I know is the person who saves the world and loses everything. Or, be that character and watch everyone I know and love die while accomplishing that goal.

The need for adventure or magical events isn't strong with me because they usually include more suffering than I would feel I could handle.

Didn't know what this was until Fibroqueen tagged me with it. It's a way to promote the original creator of the award, the person who tagged you and those that you tag. Figured I'd put that in if anyone wanted to know what this was about.

I've completed rule 1-4 now onto the next ones:

Number 5: Tell 3 things about yourself

1. I'm a certified elementary teacher haven't landed a job since I graduated
2. I am extremely shy & bad with anxiety which is a shitty mix for job interviews.
3. I am not a grammar/spelling fanatic as you'd expect from a teacher. Not that I don't encourage it but it's not that big of a deal.

Number 6: Nominate 10-20 people

1. Destiny Williams
2. B0rd_2_Read
3. Snowflakes and Spider Silk
4. Arthritis Kitchen
5. Good 'n' Ready-y
6. Hedwig Reads
7. Actually Anna
8. Afternoon Bookery

2) Silly question: What do you think will break or end the internet?
3) If you're busy what's the one thing you always make sure you have time to do?
4) What authors do you read their material NO MATTER what? Or, actor/actress if you don't have an author but possibly favorite actor.
5) How many do you actively follow?

Number 9: Share links to your best blog posts

I'm going with "most clicked on" or ones I enjoyed writing.

1. 13 American Women's Firsts with Books
2. Young, Gifted and Black by Jamia Wilson
3. #Spoonie: Symptoms of Gallbladder Problems
4. A Quick & Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns ...
5. 15 Couldn't Finish Reads

Questions I was asked but just found them on 5/22/2018-

  1. What inspires you to write a blog post?  Reading and the enjoyment I get from it. Get all the frustration out of having chronic health problems in a way that's fun and enjoyable (at least for me).
  2. Why did you decide to blog? What do you enjoy the most about blogging? I have been blogging since 13? 10?  But there has never been any objective/goal to it..just nonsense. I wanted to create something that had a point even if it was just to me.

My favorite thing is writing reviews. Even the short ones. It allows me more time with a book I've been reading and just .. talk about it.

With WordPress there is the social aspect that existed with Livejournal that I haven't seen so much with Tumblr or other social websites.. in my experience.
  1. Who is your favorite writer?

My favorite writer currently is Kelley Armstrong
  2. What is your favorite time to write? Why? In the morning when I'm in the most pain but can't lay back down. It gives me something to do while the nonsense is going on. Fantastic distraction. Doesn't ALWAYS work as the pain sometimes overpowers EVERYTHING.
  3. What is the one piece of clothing that you own that you love and will not part with? UHM answering this as type of clothing: sweaters, shawls, parkas... any garment that is meant to keep you warm but is like a blanket that you wear and it's socially acceptable to walk around in.

#SundayQuestions: What are your top 5 reads for 2018 so far?

x

  1. Binti by Nnedi Okorafor - Absolutely enjoyed this book. Finally braved up and reviewed it. Enjoyed it a lot didn't want to make a mess of the review for it.
  2. Daddy Darkest by Ellery A. Kane. This book was a trip from the first page to the last. It's entertaining, fast pace, and frustrating read.
  3. Heir Ascendant by Matthew S. Cox. Genetically perfected nine year old vs. her power hungry/controlling mother. She finds a new mother ...through a bizarre circumstance.
  4. The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie. Lesbian/bi (idk no labels given) teenager who trains sea monsters to fight pirates.
  5. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. A YA romance where the male love interest is aggressive but not in a "run girl he's an abuser" way.

#SundayQuestions: How Many Books Are On Your TBR Pile?

x
Oh no. A friend from Saudia Arabia reprimanded my lengthy To Be Read list. That I wouldn't live long enough to read them all so what's the point?

She's correct. On occasion I trim my TBR list to something reasonable. The issue is on Goodreads my TBR lists includes books from Giveaways. Which I know should mean that I'll actually go read them because I've entered a giveaway right?

But most of my giveaways are for books I've slight interest in reading. So, if I don't win them I'll probably not actively search for the book. At times there are books being given away on Goodreads that I do really really want. But most of the time it's not the case.

Currently my to be read list is 190 books. I haven't looked at it in awhile -- I will eventually. The amount may increase or decrease when I do. Ha.

How many books are on your TBR? Will you live long enough to complete the list?

#Netgalley 13 Current Reads

I have sent 49 reviews for books since January. Every few weeks I get my list down to maybe five then go berserk.

Lately obsessively reading and talking about books have helped me ignore pain levels. I've always read to do this but with the availability of reading and talking more online about it... definitely has helped.

Since my HIDA scan almost a month ago my pain level has tripled. I had to request my Tramadol prescription be filled. Which sucks because it's another medication I have to pay for.

Currently, I am without my birth control because of money. We're stacking money as best we can toward my gallbladder surgery.

I called and requested tomorrow for the initial appointment with the surgeon. That's why my youcaring increased to a thousand. After May I no longer will be working due to the fact that I am a substitute teacher so when school ends.. my work ends.

Now after a quick medical update the books I am currently reading through Netgalley. Mind, I'm not reading these all at once. Though I am reading these alongside books I've purchased and some from the library.

  1. Sense and Sensibility - Manga Classics - I love comics and classics so this series is absolutely the best IMO. I believe it's easy to get auto-approved with them if you're interested in reading mangas + classics.
  2. Blood Will Out - Jo Treggiari. This comes out June 5th. It's a YA book about a serial killer-- or the victim of a serial killer. First person point of view. I accidentally read a review of it - didn't have a spoiler warning but my fault.
  3. The Right Thing to Do at the Time by Dov Zeller. It's free to read through Kindle Unlimited.  a romantic comedy that's "Jewish, queer, New York City retelling of Pride and Prejudice"
  4. Great Expectations - Manga Classics - Yes, I love this series.. no apologies, lol.
  5. All the Answers by Michael Kupperman - comes out May 15th. It's a comic story about his father. Still avail on Netgalley.
  6. Betting the Scot  by Jennifer Trethewey. I received a copy from Netgalley after it became purchasable. I read the review from Tracy @ Flippinpages and hopefully enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the review.
  7. The Quantum Magician by Derek Kunsken - comes out October 4th. Sci-fi!!
  8. The Hockey Saint by Howard Shapiro -- Thru Animal Media which I'm auto approved so I'm just trying all their books. Or, at least the ones I've found interesting.
  9. The Stereotypical Freaks by Howard Shapiro  same as above. Auto-approved.
  10. Olympian Challenger by Astrid Arditi -- if this is NOT a pseudonym I'd be surprised. It's a YA fantasy book based on Greek mythology. Comes out July 3rd!
  11. Chilly Da Vinci by Jarrett Rutland out December 4th. Children's fiction about an inventing Penguin. Can you guess the name inspiration for this character? Couldn't pass up.
  12. The Electrifying Story of Multiple Sclerosis by Vanita Oelschlager. Vanita's books are majority children books that you can click/download no autoapprove/waiting period. I so far am enjoying everything put out by her.
  13. The Redeemed by Matthew S. Cox  -- is out already since last December. I just wanted to download another one of his books.

Another one of my lists. If you enjoy reading lists I have an entire tag dedicated to them here

Questions if you've made it through or just want to answer:

What are you reading? How's it going? What are you enjoying about it so far? If you read MORE than one at a time... totally okay to talk to me about all of them, promise.

#SundayQuestions: Would you rather read digital or paper books?

I prefer both but use digital books more often now. It's easier for me to access. I can sit and read books off my computer screen without lifting something. Prolong handling of items irritate my arms and can cause flare ups. So having options is beautiful.

How do you prefer to read?

#SundayQuestions: What is a #Spoonie?

What is a Spoonie?

Spoonie is a metaphor to explain chronic illness. Spoon Theory came into existence through Christine Miserandino. She created this theory by using literal spoons to describe having lupus to a friend while at a restaurant. People who related and understood this fell in love with this explanation and people ascribe to it.

Now, not everyone who deal with chronic diseases/pain use the phrase Spoonie. But many of us do use it and use hashtags inside social media websites to find one another. We have a wide variety of chronic illnesses and things we deal with in life.

Spoon Theory from Wikipedia:

The Spoon Theory is a disability metaphor used to explain the reduced amount of energy available for activities of daily living and productive tasks that may result from disability or chronic illness. "Spoons" are a visual representation used as a unit of measurement used to quantify how much energy a person has throughout a given day.

Each activity requires a given number of spoons, which will only be replaced as a person 'recharges' through rest. A person who runs out of spoons has no choice but to rest to replenish spoons.

Spoons are widely discussed within autoimmune, disability, mental and other chronic illness online communities. Spoonies is sometimes used to refer to a person with a chronic illness that can be explained with the spoon theory.

According to Spoon theory, spoons (unit of energy) may be replaced after rest or a night of sleep. However, people with chronic diseases such as autoimmune diseases and various disabilities may have sleep difficulties. This may result in low supply of energy.

But everyone has to rest/recharge ...

This isn't the same thing as someone who has done their daily activity and going to bed. This is the lack of energy due to an ongoing health problem. What you do through today if you do too much you may cause yourself to be so tired that you cannot function or cause pain levels to worsen.

For example, on some days if I decide to do a lot of physical activity one day.. I may have to cut out things I do the next few days because they're going to be filled with laying in bed and ice pack/ heating blanket to calm down my pain.

This isn't the same to having a cold or flu. The energy drained from these things is drastic and frustrating, however, you'll get well and move on. If you can imagine having to deal with low energy and pain 24/7 due to your flu/cold experience...that's someone with chronic health's problem every day with little relief.

But there's medication for that...

Medication is not a magical cure all. Just as people who occasionally take over the counter medication .. have things that don't work for them while other temp meds do. That is the same with someone with chronic problems.

I'm currently working toward another set of medication to fight my Rheumatoid Arthritis. Which is where my Immune System is attacking my body's tissue -- the stuff that cushions and protects my joints.

I take medication that is fighting my immune system. Unlike other medications..where you take the stuff and your problem goes away. Mine doesn't because.. to be honest.. if my problem went away I'd be dead because my problem is my immune system.

I like to explain Autoimmune disorder as: Your Immune system is confused, panicked and is too embarrassed to say it's wrong so it keeps battling on. Not probably accurate but that's what I like to imagine as my medication slowly stops working because my Immune System is working against it.

I mean it took 2.5 years before my first medication completely pooped out. So, I mean it did pretty well. However, my new meds? I have to SLOWLY take them with the meds I'm currently on because it can take up to 6 months for them to MAYBE WORK.

Tl;dr -- Basically, you are working against your body when trying to ease pain and problems. It isn't 100% and you will have to dance around new medication in hopes of something working .. at least temporarily.

There is a homeopathy that can cure it all...

HA. HA. Okay, I am fine with people using alternative medication and things. But I disagree with pushing this onto other people. I use a chiropractor desperate for pain relief. But that's something I chose to try and have no interest in drinking, chanting or doing odd and end things.

Anyway, this has started to turn into a rant/answer previous questions I've dealt with. But that's a spoonie & problems/things that go on with Spoonie-ness.

What does being a Spoonie have to do with books and reviews?

Because I am a Spoonie! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and other symptoms that feel like they don't have a reason & just harassing me.

It takes energy to make posts! While it honestly doesn't physically take me awhile -- even with blog posts that are this long and include pictures. It is still energy consuming and need to rest/relax from it sometimes.

But this is also what I do to help keep my mind off my health problems. Talk about one of my favorite hobbies ---reading!

It is combined in this book blog in hopes of possibly helping someone else who has a mystery health problem. Sometimes you  know something is wrong but all you have are very vague symptoms and it's hard to Google vague issues. So, talking about my symptoms, the length it's taken to get a diagnoses and doctor battles... show someone looking for their answers.. that they're not alone.

If you read through all this. Thanks for sticking through it! I hope this has helped you get to know me just a bit more.

Are you a spoonie blogger? What do you write about? Drop your links in the comment section!
